Denis Wolf - German bodybuilder with Russian character

When journalists ask a bodybuilder what caused his passion for heavy sports, Dennis Wolf remembers with a smile how much admiration he looked at the muscles of famous athletes. He always wanted to be like Arnold Schwarzenegger. The films “Terminator”, “The Incredible Hulk”, “Predator” with the participation of titled bodybuilders motivated people to bodybuilding. My childhood idol, “Iron Arnie,” determined my hobbies and future destiny.

Today Dennis has a lot to be proud of. He has participated in prestigious tournaments and won prizes at national championships. The bodybuilder has built his dream figure and is in great shape.

Childhood

At school, Denis Wolf was very far from bodybuilding. The boy sang in the choir and played basketball. Life became even more difficult with the arrival of two younger children in the family. After the collapse of the USSR, the whole family moved to Germany. This was Wolf's mother's long-time dream. Denis urgently had to learn German. This was extremely difficult, since at that time there were no special classes for Russian children. After graduating from school, Wolf went to work. The young man painted houses and installed windows.

Big sport

Brilliant victories were not long in coming, the first of which was the championship at the state championship in 2000. Having tasted the taste of triumph, the young athlete realized that he really had a high chance of becoming a successful professional in this industry. Another five years separated the bodybuilder from growing his career, and finally, in 2005, he won the world championship in China. Having passed the amateur level with flying colors, Wolf wanted to move on.

It is very typical that Arnold Schwarzenegger served as an example and motivator for Wolf. This athlete and actor has become an icon of physical perfection and masculinity for more than one young man. Well, we can say that Arnold fulfilled his role well, since thanks to him such wonderful people grow up as Dennis.

After watching a number of films where bodybuilder characters appeared, our hero wanted to be just as strong and indestructible. And no wonder, boys grew up in such pictures who wanted to become men, not sissies, and could enroll in a gym while still very young.

  • Dennis Wolf can show off a rather beautiful and strong body. His height is 181 cm.
  • His weight during the off-season reaches 132 kg, while for competitions he gains 117 kg.
  • Dennis Wolf has a bicep girth of 56 cm, hips - 79 cm, calves - about 43 cm, waist - 74 cm, chest - 142 cm.

Hard labour

Sometimes the working day lasted 12 hours. There was only one day off. Denis Wolf was able to leave hard work only in 2005. But the athlete always found time to exercise in the gym, regardless of his workload. This is a pretty clear example of the psychology of a champion. Wolf developed qualities that allowed him to overcome any difficulties.

The path to the goal took six whole years of hard training. Only after this did Wolf become a professional. Like many young bodybuilders of that time, Denis was motivated by Arnold Schwarzenegger. In his interviews, he regularly thanked The Terminator for inspiration.

Future plans

After winning the Mr. Olympia competition, Dennis Wolf rightfully received the title of superpro. Now he is a welcome person at all the most prestigious fitness tournaments and forums.

At the moment, he continues to do what he loves, counting on new heights. In 2013, Wolf was in 7th place in the list of the best - IFBB bodybuilder rating.

By his own admission, at the moment the main thing is sports. In his spare time, he thinks about what he will do when he retires from big-time sports. He is considering various business projects, but considers combining the career of a businessman and a bodybuilder to be difficult. He is often invited to seminars, speeches to young people in different countries, and to pose for magazines.

He traveled a lot around the world, of all the countries he liked the most, except Germany, Australia and Kuwait. He spoke enthusiastically about St. Petersburg, where he came at the invitation to attend a bodybuilding college.

Competitions

Denis took part in his first tournament at the age of 20. Wolf weighed 91 kilograms, which was barely enough for the heavy weight category. However, in 1999 he managed to take second and fourth place. In 2000, Wolf won the title of absolute German champion.

In 2005, the athlete became the amateur world champion. This was the start of his professional career. After a couple of years, he was able to push the venerable champions towards him. In 2008, Wolf became fourth at Olympia (before that he was sixteenth). In 2013, he took third place in the same competition. And in 2014 he won the European Arnold Classic.

Plans[edit | edit code]

In America, bodybuilding is not only a competition, it is, first of all, a show with clearly defined rules of the game and huge fees.

Bodybuilding has become a thriving business industry, which means that every athlete must be able to work not only with the barbell, but also with the press, sponsoring companies and, of course, with the audience. Dennis Wolf is trying to actively work in this direction. In the USA, a sponsorship contract was signed with the sports nutrition company Nutrex, where Wolf's partner became his fellow giants Markus Ruhl and Armie Scholz.

In Europe, things were more difficult.

Dennis: I used to have a contract with Yates's company, but he didn't want to pay me normal money, so I signed a contract with (Nutrex Europe). However, Dorian Yates is the best pro bodybuilder for me along with Kevin Levrone.

After a successful performance at Olympia, Wolf became a full member of the “team” of super professionals. Now the German athlete is a welcome guest at all top tournaments and fitness forums. And we wish Dennis Wolf success in his career and continue to root for him as if he were one of our own. After all, the 2005 absolute world amateur bodybuilding champion and winner of 5th place at the 2010 Olympia, heavyweight Dennis Wolf, was born in the USSR.

Family

His wife Ekaterina and Denis Wolf’s daughter Sabrina always support the athlete in his endeavors. The wife did not mind when the athlete left his previous job. Denis met Ekaterina at a sports club. At the moment, they have been together for almost twenty years (they got married in 1997). Wolf considers a strong family to be the key to a successful career. For his wife, Denis is the ideal man. The athlete devotes all his victories exclusively to his wife.

The Wolf family also has a pet – an English bulldog. The wife jokingly talks about their similarity. After training, the bodybuilder loves to tinker with the dog.

Dennis Wolf on doping

Regarding steroids, the bodybuilder categorically states:

“I did not take pharmaceuticals and do not advise others to. And in general, doping among bodybuilders is not so popular that we need to talk about it.”

The main reason for abandoning simulators is sponsors.

“We are paid big fees for the way we look. Imagine the scandal that would break out if they found out that the muscles were stuffed with chemicals. Nobody wants to lose income because of stupidity.”

Like all athletes, Wolf has his own tricks , which he keeps secret. Well, he has the right. After all, they are the ones who help to progress in results and take honorable positions on the pedestals of fame.

Diet

Denis Wolf wakes up at eight in the morning. He has oatmeal and ten squirrels for breakfast. After this, the athlete takes the vitamin complex, washing it down with a protein shake, and two hours later he also takes a fat burner.

At half past two, lunch begins (brown rice, chicken, vitamins). At seven in the evening, Wolf drinks a carbohydrate drink. For dinner, a bodybuilder usually has flounder with baked potatoes and a vitamin complex. Before going to bed, the athlete drinks a couple of servings of a protein shake.

Secrets of a professional

In his training, Denis Wolf follows several main principles:

  • In bodybuilding, physical and spiritual strength are very important, so you should fully concentrate on your classes.
  • Choosing the right sports nutrition. Denis tried the products of many brands and decided to settle on serious German companies.
  • Priority should always be given to problem areas. Weaknesses need to be worked on regularly.
  • The optimal number of approaches is 4, and as for repetitions, it is 10-12. According to the athlete, reducing these numbers will not allow high-quality muscle groups to be worked out.

Family[edit | edit code]

Wolf's personal life changed when he married his girlfriend Katya during a posing visit to Philadelphia.

Dennis: I was with her in the US for a month. My friend said to me, “Why don’t you let me marry you while you’re here?”

The rest is now history. Katya believed so much in Dennis' dream of becoming a professional bodybuilder that she gave him her blessing to leave his previous job and concentrate entirely on his career as an athlete. From that moment on he began to really grow.

Dennis: A strong family is the key to victory in everything. My wife Katya is a blessing from God. I wouldn't be here now if I hadn't met her. I dedicate all my victories to Katya. In terms of results, my off-season weight has increased from 108 kg to 128 kg over the past two years. First of all, this is due to the fact that I began to allow myself to rest and eat more. Now my professional career is just beginning, and I'm interested in where it will take me.

Evaluation form

Denis has a mixed build. He is a mesomorph with ectomorph traits. This fact has a double impact on the bodybuilder’s form. On the one hand, we see a massive (from 117 to 132 kilograms) and tall (181 centimeters) athlete with good proportions: long legs, narrow waist, broad shoulders. It looks great in frontal poses, especially the front lats and one arm biceps poses. On the other hand, there is a clear lack of muscle mass and failures in the development of the back, hamstrings, and triceps. And small calves generally spoil the impression of his general condition. Especially in the “ash-peh” pose (maximum muscularity). Although in this position he looked even better than Coleman. To qualify for the championship, Denis needs to gain about 7-10 more kilograms of muscle in the right places.

Training program

A systematic approach helps Denis progress confidently . Every morning the athlete starts by swimming in the pool and trains for 1-1.5 hours, 5 days a week.

On Monday, the target load is received by the triceps, chest, and calf muscles. In a programme:

  • bench press;
  • bent over dumbbell raises;
  • work in a crossover;
  • French press;
  • pull-down block from above with one hand and lifting dumbbells from behind the head;
  • calf raises in the machine.

On Tuesday, according to the plan, we will work on the biceps of the arms, hips, and ankles. In complex:

  • bending arms with apparatus from different positions;
  • concentrated arm curls;
  • lying leg curl;
  • finger lifts from different positions.

Wednesday is dedicated to quadriceps training. In complex:

  • platform leg press;
  • free weight squats;
  • lunges;
  • working in a leg machine.

On Thursday , as scheduled - working on the back and ankles. The program includes:

  • different types of pulls from the block;
  • traction of projectiles in an inclined position;
  • classic calf raises.

Friday is for the shoulders and calves. This:

  • standing and sitting bench press;
  • work from the lower block;
  • calf raises in the machine.

the weekend recovering.
