How to determine your men's clothing size? Size charts included

Men, like women, love to dress tastefully, take care of their appearance and wardrobe, but unlike the fair half of humanity, they do not like to spend a lot of time shopping for clothes, much less spend lengthy fittings in stores. Some men buy clothes by eye, while others trust the taste of their significant other, who can spend hours shopping, choosing clothes for themselves or their loved ones. For many women, shopping is a way of relaxation, an opportunity to relieve stress and escape from problems.

Therefore, every woman buys clothes for her man with great pleasure. But in order to avoid incidental situations and buy suitable clothes, you need to know men's sizes, then there will definitely be no problems with the purchase.

Size marking for men's clothing in Russia

In Russia, when determining the size of clothes, you need to be guided by three measurements:

  • half chest circumference;
  • waist circumference;
  • neck circumference;

The basis for calculating the size of men's suits and shirts is the half-chest circumference.

How to determine half chest girth?

  1. Stretch a measuring tape around your ribcage along the most prominent points.
  2. Divide the resulting value by 2 and find out your size.

With a girth of 100 cm, clothes of size 50 are suitable for you; with a girth of 96 cm, clothes of size 48 are suitable. Based on this indicator, you can select suits, shirts, T-shirts, and outerwear.

How to measure waist circumference?

  1. Strip down to a T-shirt or shirt made of thin fabric to ensure the most accurate measurements.
  2. Wrap the measuring tape around your waist, pull it not too tight and not too loose, and remember the result.

The result will be useful when searching for perfectly fitting trousers or buying tailored items. It happens that the figure is characterized by a massive “top” and narrowed hips.

How to determine neck circumference?

  1. Locate the 7th cervical vertebra on the back of the neck.
  2. Guide the tape at the level of the 7th cervical vertebra, bring it along the sides along the base of the neck and bring the ends of the tape to the jugular cavity. The resulting neck circumference is the collar size.

The measurement will be useful in finding the perfect shirt. However, often certain collar sizes correspond to certain half-chest sizes. For ease of perception, you can summarize all the correspondence between measurements in a table of Russian sizes.

How to measure breast volume in women?

To accurately know which bra will fit perfectly on your chest, you need to correctly measure your chest size. Otherwise, it will be impossible to wear underwear. Yes, and this parameter is useful for buying a dress or other clothes with a tight fit.

Rules for measuring chest circumference

For the process you will need:

  • mirror, preferably large
  • measuring tape
  • piece of paper, pen.

Measurements for women are carried out without underwear (bra) or any other clothing. First take a measurement under your bust. Please note that the measuring tape does not need to be tightened too much, and keep it parallel to the floor, and the tape should not be too loose. The underwear should fit comfortably. Write down the result on a piece of paper so you don’t forget the measurement.

Next, measure the circumference of your chest with a centimeter. The tape should pass along the farthest points, more precisely along the nipples. Again, the measuring tool should be parallel to the floor. This way the measurements will be correct.

IMPORTANT : Take measurements so that the breasts are not distorted, do not squeeze them or add volume.

Choosing a bra size using these measurements will not be so difficult. You just need to pay attention to the tables, where sizes are indicated by different symbols and numbers. This is where you should choose your parameters. Also, when buying clothes or underwear on a Chinese portal, you need to take into account that the goods there often run small. This can end up ruining your mood. It is also advisable to take into account your own figure characteristics; for some, underwear of one shape will suit, for others, another. Girls with small breasts will benefit from a push-up bra, and those with large breasts will benefit from underwear that will support them.

Height designation on the label

When purchasing clothes, look at the height listed on the label. Actual height may differ from the height on the label by only 3 cm. Different clothing manufacturers do not mark the recommended height the same way. So you can find a laconic marking “height: 176 cm”, or a more detailed one – “height: 172-180 cm”. You can see the correspondence of the height on the tag to the standard interval in the table below.

The specified height markings can be used when choosing shirts, jackets, raincoats, coats, jackets, but they are not suitable when choosing trousers.

Choice of trousers

When looking for the right trouser model for a traditional cut, you need to be guided by three measurements:

  • waist circumference;
  • hip circumference;
  • length of the trouser leg along the inner seam.

Waist circumference should be measured at the level of the belt. Determine your hip circumference by placing a measuring tape around the most prominent part of your buttocks. You will find out the length of the leg along the inseam if you stretch the tape from the groin to the imaginary point where, in your opinion, the product should end.

The length of the trouser leg is useful when buying trousers in online stores. You can take this measurement based on your favorite trousers that fit you well.

In the men's size chart you can see the relationship between measurements and standard sizes. Let’s say the waist circumference is 93, and the hips are 108, which means you need to find a domestic product with the number “52” on the label.

The value on the pants label might look like this: 52/170. In this case, the size and recommended height are indicated.

And here is a height chart for choosing trousers.

Men whose height is more than 190 cm or less than 170 cm need to carefully choose trousers and try them on carefully so that the model you like is not too long or too short.

Size chart

After the measurements are taken, it is necessary to correlate the obtained parameters with the size designations and the manufacturer’s size chart.

Reference ! There are international (including sizes provided by Russia) designations and sizes of European countries.

Many manufacturers write the indicated size along with the height for which a particular clothing model is designed. For example: 180/52, where the first numbers are height, the second numbers are size.

Important! If the proportions are non-standard, it is necessary to try on clothes. The label may indicate the correct size, but not account for uncorrelated heights.

This problem most often occurs when choosing trousers.

Labels on clothes made by a foreign factory may be incomprehensible to the Russian consumer, but if you understand the size ratio, everything becomes extremely accessible:

Shirt, T-shirt, pullover size

When choosing a shirt or sweater, you should know the neck circumference, chest circumference and sleeve length. Everything is clear with the first two measurements, but the third is something new.

How to measure sleeve length?

  1. Bend your elbow slightly.
  2. Measure the distance from your forearm to your wrist line.

If you want to purchase a T-shirt or sweater, use another table.

Table 4

If you're looking for a brand new shirt, use a slightly different table.

To successfully choose a long-sleeved shirt, you should measure your wrist circumference in advance.

Basic measurements for trousers

Measurements for sewing (the table for the same type of clothing is standard) for trouser products of different sizes should be taken as follows:

  • DSB (length of trousers on the side). The measuring tape is located along the outer thigh of the leg and runs from the estimated length of the product to the braid located at the waist. In this case, the tape should cross the most convex part of the thigh.

  • DtK (length from horizontal waist to knee level). It is measured consistently with the DSB measurement, only the middle of the knee joint acts as the lowest point, the waist line remains the highest point.
  • Chipboard (product length along the front side). The measuring tape is located along the front side of the leg from the waist line to the estimated length of the product. In this case, it should cross the maximum convexity of the abdomen.
  • ДШ1 (1st step length). This measurement is taken “on a ruler” from the highest point of the ruler to the floor line. Measurements are taken from the inside of the leg.
  • ДШ2 (2nd step length). The measurement is taken along the back of the leg, starting from the fold under the buttock to the point of contact with the floor. The correctness of taking measurements of the first and second step lengths can be checked by comparison; usually, the first measurement is 10-40 mm larger than the second.
  • BC (seated height). Measurements are taken while sitting on a chair from the waist of the product to contact with the chair. The measuring tape is located on the side.
  • OB (femoral circumference). The measuring tape is placed horizontally across the widest part of the thigh. In this case, it should pass under the fold of the buttock.
  • OH (leg reach). Measurements are taken in the horizontal plane 15 cm above the knee.
  • OK (knee coverage). The measuring tape goes around the middle of the knee. At the same time, for loose-fitting trousers, measurements are taken from the knee bent at a right angle, and for tight-fitting ones - from the straightened leg.
  • LPR (armhole length). This measurement is a control one. The measuring tape is located from the front of the product's waistband at the waistline to the elastic at the back waistline. In this case, the tape passes through the groin.
  • ШН (width of the bottom of the trousers). Determined individually depending on the product model.

European marks on labels

The principle of marks on garments from foreign manufacturers differs from traditional marks on products from Russian factories. However, our signs will help you navigate the sizes of foreign manufacturers. This is how the labeling of European products is deciphered.

And this is how Russian and European clothing sizes correspond correctly.
