Alexander’s personal strength indicators are impressive: bench press – 260 kilograms, and overhead press – 110 kilograms. Deadlift – 355 kilograms. If we talk about squats, an athlete can lift 280 kg with a barbell on his chest, and the weight that Alexander can lift in a squat with a barbell on his shoulders is 325 kg.

Biography

Alexander Fedorov was born in 1978 in the city of Leningrad. As a child, the guy was involved in team sports, but it was all at the entertainment level. Alexander also attended freestyle wrestling and martial arts sections.

The child's father was a bodybuilder and had good results at city competitions in the mid-80s. He also traveled to tournaments held in the Baltic countries, namely Estonia and Lithuania. It was Anatoly Fedorov who instilled in his son a love of bodybuilding. Little Sasha often attended training and competitions with his father, communicated with his friends, and this became the reason that the young man wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps. The younger Fedorov began bodybuilding at the age of 14.

What should you eat? — Fedotov’s advice

There are a lot of nutrition rules. Alexander Fedorov describes them . Firstly, food should consist of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. You need to eat well. Your body needs to gain mass. It will be processed by the body and build the foundation for muscles. If you eat several times a day, the result will be much more effective. You need to eat at least three times a day.

You need to start doing this in the morning; breakfast should be filled with protein foods. After all, it gives strength for training. This applies to both lunch and dinner. You need to eat an hour before training or an hour after it. It is important to remember this and pay attention. Otherwise, you may have stomach problems. If you use nutritional supplements, the instructions indicate when it is best to consume them and how to do it correctly. They are usually consumed half an hour before meals. Be careful in your diet. It should consist of healthy foods and have positive effects on the body. Food is the key to bodybuilding success. Remember this. Eat right and the results will surprise you.

Anthropometric data

Fedorov's height is about 185 centimeters. The chest circumference is one and a half meters. When an athlete is preparing to compete, his weight is no more than 130 kilograms, but once before the tournament the weigh-in showed 137 kilograms. In the off-season, the scale arrow may point to the number 140. The athlete’s maximum weight was 142 kilograms.

The following data also testifies to Alexander’s impressive size: his waist circumference is 1 meter, and his hips are 82 centimeters. The size of the lower leg is approximately 55 centimeters, and the biceps is about 60 centimeters.

Carier start

Alexander Fedorov began paying serious attention to bodybuilding in 1994. Training began to be systematic and after two years the athlete was able to take part in his debut competitions at the professional level. Before that, he performed in the “Under 16 years” category. Such tournaments were specially organized by Vladimir Dubinin and Alexander Ushnev so that young bodybuilders could feel the spirit of competition before starting their performances at the adult level. The organizers said that holding such events allows us to at least slightly reduce the difference that exists between junior tournaments and professional ones.

In 1996, Fedorov won the St. Petersburg championship, and a year later, Alexander Fedorov went to Germany to participate in a bodybuilding tournament. The competition was called the “German Open Championship”. The trip was organized by the guy's godfather. This was Fedorov's first performance. After him, he became famous in Germany. Until 2006, he regularly received invitations from the organizers to take part in any competition. It was after his performance in Germany that Fedorov began to be called Russian Arnold.

Fedor drew Alexander into sports from childhood. But he resisted - he went into crime and violated the regime

From early childhood, Fedor took care of his brother, who is 5 years younger. He carried Sasha on his shoulders to kindergarten, and in winter he took him on a sled. The parents worked until the night, and there was no one to leave the youngest with, so Fedor took him with him to training. When Alexander grew up, he also began training with his brother - in the judo and sambo sections.

The brothers were not considered great talents, but became multiple champions of Europe and the world in sambo. But at some point, Alexander said that he saw no point in playing sports.

“What have you achieved in life? International master of sports? What do you have that you will live on?” – he once asked Fyodor. The older brother shrugged, but Alexander had a plan.

He talked to people from the criminal world and saw that it was easier to make money there than in sports. Alexander became an active member of one of the groups - in the late nineties, Stary Oskol was drowning in crime. Fedor tried to get his brother back into the gym, and the coaches even offered to send Sasha to the army, but he didn’t listen to anyone.

At that time, Alexander had his first problems with alcohol: once at a party he was hit in the head with a bottle of champagne. The fighter could have died, but in the morning he silently pulled out the IV and left the hospital to go home. Emelianenko Jr. generously scattered his health.

This story could not end well: at the age of 18, Alexander went to prison. Hooliganism, robbery and robbery - the list is impressive. Alexander said that he was set up by another gang, but the fighter’s entourage tactfully refuses to comment, hinting that the matter was serious.

“I didn’t do what I was imprisoned for, they came up with a bunch of articles for me. Fedya came to me in prison and said: “The people who imprisoned you sent me to you. If you apologize to them through me, you will receive a suspended sentence.” I replied: “Listen, Fedya, if I do this, the guys won’t understand me. Let’s not raise this topic again,” Alexander recalled.

As a result, Alexander received 5 years, of which he served 3.5 (parole). Fedor helped him with this - at that time he was already performing in Japan and wanted to return his brother to fighting.

“Fyodor told about his brother that he was in prison and needed help: they say, he got there due to a misunderstanding and his youth. We asked Belgorod boxers, reputable people, to find good lawyers to help him get out early. They said that you can be released on parole, but you need to pay money to the lawyer. We conveyed this to Fedor, and he said that he was ready to pay,” said Emelianenko’s coach Nikolai Pitkov.

And although the coaches were confused by the details of Alexander’s criminal case, he became part of the Russian Top Team. Another Russian heavyweight, Sergei Kharitonov, trained there. This trio was a threat to the entire Pride heavyweight division, but only Fedor showed truly champion character. He was a fanatic and trained until exhaustion, and Sergei and Alexander (according to the coaches) loved to go for walks.

Fedor had a hard time convincing Pride, the best organization at the time, to sign a fighter with no record who had just been released from prison. But Fedor succeeded: he vouched that Sasha was an excellent fighter, and his image with prison tattoos (in the zone Sasha was considered a criminal) would attract Japanese fans. Fedor believed that his brother would quickly get into shape:

“Sanya doesn’t go to training, but he works with me for a week - I can’t do anything with him. We need to help Sasha, get him out, let him be with us on the team. He has very good hands,” Fedor told the Russian Top Team coaches.

First World Junior Championships in my career

The German Open became a springboard for Alexander Fedorov. Bodybuilding began to make the guy fall in love with him more and more. In 1998, the guy decided to enter the world championship, which took place in Spain. Alexander managed to approach the tournament in excellent athletic shape, which affected the athlete’s performance.

Another success factor was Fedorov’s ability to overcome his fear. After Germany, many began to note the high level of stress resistance in Alexandra. As a result, the Russian athlete managed to win the Junior World Championship.

The stunning success at the start of his career made the athlete a star, but Fedorov did not begin to suffer from star fever. The athlete himself says that victories at an early stage of his career did not change his attitude towards life and other people. Alexander repeatedly mentioned in his interviews that his coach Vladimir Dubinin always said that you need to be closer to the ground. This is precisely what became the athlete’s motto, with which he still goes through life.

Career before injury

At the European Championships, which took place in 2003, Fedorov was able to win the title of absolute champion. In the same year, he took part in the Russian Grand Prix for the first time, where he took third place. The Russian let Ronnie Coleman and Jay Cutler, who are the biggest stars in the world of bodybuilding, go ahead.

Alexander Fedorov took part in the competition again a year later. In 2004, he was able to rise one step higher, winning a silver medal. Ronnie Coleman won the competition.

In 2005, as the “Russian Mr. Olympia,” Fedorov was invited to the Mr. Olympia competition. The competition took place in Las Vegas, USA. He became the first athlete with a Russian passport to take part in this tournament. Fedorov managed to take 20th place.

A year later, he competed in the open bodybuilding category at the Austrian Grand Prix. At the tournament, the Russian was able to take 10th place. In 2006, Alexander was seriously injured. He tore the tendon muscles in his chest. After the athlete underwent surgery, he decided to announce the end of his sports career. Alexander Fedorov was 28 years old at that time.

End of career[edit | edit code]

In 2006, Alexander Fedorov left professional bodybuilding. After rupturing his pectoral muscle tendons, he undergoes a complex operation during which surgeons attached the torn pectoral muscle with a synthetic ligament. The operation was followed by a long recovery period. However, Alexander is so devoted to what he loves that he decides to resume training, making the necessary restorative changes in his program. But injury and surgery do not give the bodybuilder the opportunity to fully train the shoulders and chest muscles, which, of course, affects the shape of these muscles and the proportions of the body as a whole. Alexander's performances in 2006 did not bring the desired results, so the bodybuilder decided to end his career.

Career resumption

For eight years, Fedorov was away from big-time sports. It was eating him up from the inside. Throughout this time, he was engaged in training, and in 2014 he announced that he was returning to competitive bodybuilding. Alexander Fedorov also took part in competitions in 2014, which took place in his hometown. In St. Petersburg, the athlete took eighth place.

During 2015, the bodybuilder took part in five serious competitions in the open category. First, Alexander went to competitions in the United States of America, where he participated in tournaments in Orlando and New York. In the Big Apple, Fedorov took seventh place, and in Florida he took third place.

After two American stages, the Russian bodybuilder returned to Europe, where he took part in competitions that took place in Madrid and Prague. Fedorov failed to get into the top ten in either Spain or the Czech Republic - 12th and 14th places, respectively. At the end of the year, the athlete was invited to another tournament - in Lahti. In the Finnish city, Alexander again remained outside the top ten, taking 11th place. In 2016, he again traveled to the United States of America. This time the Grand Prix took place in a city in Maryland called Baltimore. Alexander Fedorov took 9th place at the end of the competition.

Interview with Alexander Fedorov

The famous bodybuilder Alexander Fedorov, of course, has achieved a lot in painbuilding. But we are just sure that this is just the beginning. We were lucky enough to meet him at IronMan and ask him a few questions.

Albert: Alexander, you are undoubtedly one of the most outstanding athletes representing Russia on the professional bodybuilding scene. I would like to know how our guys are treated abroad? What is the attitude of the judges? What is the attitude of ordinary people?

Alexander Fedorov: It’s paradoxical, but they treat us much better there than here. And this is comforting. But at the same time it becomes offensive for our position here. For example, now we are facing a lot of criticism. What kind of criticism? Comparative. I’ll tell you about something that affected me directly. I performed in Austria and Holland. Sergei Shelestov went to competitions in Romania. Perhaps someone thinks that I regret that I did not go to Romania, or that I think that Seryozha is better or worse than me. These people are deeply mistaken. I'm very happy for him - he will go to the Olympia next year! And that's great! We don't need to be looked at as competitors. We are now one team that represents our country abroad. And if, for example, Shabunya or someone else comes with us, it will only be easier for everyone. They treat us very well there. Yes, here we were rivals. But it's time to look at it a little differently. We've been competing with each other for so long that it's time to become one team. A team that must go abroad and defend its interests. And it’s great if the federation, sponsors, and someone else help us in this, regardless of whether we have a contract with them or not. For example, we don’t have enough clothes with Russian symbols. Such help would be invaluable. If the attitude towards us abroad is good, then it will be better if we show good form and choose the right line of tournaments. Exactly the right one. Because there are tournaments where it is very difficult to compete. In America there are championships where you can compete and they simply won’t notice you. In fact, it is necessary to lobby interests correctly, work on it correctly, actively interact with judges and create a normal team. Not from one athlete. Two, three - the more of us there are, the better. What problem are we constantly facing right now? Comparison! Today Seryozha will be with the demonstration, and I will be with the demonstration. Go online after the competition and you will see that they will immediately start comparing us. This is stupid! Neither he nor I have been in shape for a month now—the competition took place a month ago. Today we came here to pay tribute - in 2003 I won this tournament, and Seryozha also won it. We came to talk to the people. All! Maybe someone will say that it’s disrespectful to come here out of shape. But on the other hand, I would like to look at the person who can maintain 137 kg constantly. I will be sincerely happy for him. And that is, we have one “friend,” I won’t point the finger, he writes various things. But does he always think before he writes?! Everyone already understands who we are talking about (smiles).

Albert: What is the future for our guys abroad, on the world stage? In five, ten years. What places will we occupy?

Alexander Fedorov: I will say this – we will occupy whatever places we want. And if someone says that a Russian will never win Mr. Olympia, I don’t believe it! Russian can win Olympia! A Russian can have a contract abroad! Russian can do anything! And if someone thinks that we cannot do all this, then, to put it mildly, he is not entirely right. But we are not in a narrow circle (smiles), so I will say simply - everything is possible. Everything.

Angelina: So, it turns out that the main thing is the desire of our guys and still some opportunities?

Alexander Fedorov: I was very lucky that it was in Moscow, when the Russian Grand Prix was held, that I performed well and became third. After that, fame came to me, after that I got a contract. And you need to show the form at least once. Just once - and only then hold out for two, three years. Now I am faced with the fact that people in the world have begun to look at me a little differently. They began to partly forget. Some, on the contrary, say - give it time. Competent people understand perfectly well that after the trauma I suffered, it is impossible to come back quickly. And if someone thinks that something can be done with a hole in the bone and a synthetic ligament in 1.5 years, I want to look at it. If he does this, I’ll just shake his hand and say – you’re great, you’re better, you did the right thing. Everything is objective.

Albert: How is the organization going there? How are tournaments organized there?

Alexander Fedorov: I will not dissemble or deceive. But in the tournaments in which I participated, the organization was excellent. This is the European Championship, which I won in 2003, held in St. Petersburg. Then the World Championships, held here 2 years ago, and IronMan - three tournaments. Mr. Olympia is not included in this list. Night of Champions also misses out, Arnold Classic. The Austrian Grand Prix and the Dutch Grand Prix, where I had the opportunity to visit, are not only not included in this list, but they are not close. For example, when I arrived in Holland, I didn’t know what to eat. We were settled eight kilometers from Amsterdam. And I think it would be difficult to show the form at BigMag. And besides them there was simply nothing to eat. Everything was closed at nine o'clock in the evening. The available food had already run out by that time because there were flights. What to do in this situation?! Moreover, no one pays anything abroad. In Austria, we were paid for something more or less, the room was paid for. In Holland, when we arrived, not only was the travel at our own expense, the food was also at our own expense. That is, everything is at your own expense. And, as a rule, they don’t pay money at competitions. How much is the prize pool now on IronMan? I will say this: at the grand prix, where Coleman and Cutler get first places, it’s no more than ten thousand dollars. And I won a car here (I mean IronMan). I probably answered your question right away. Mr. Olympia, Arnold Classic - there is money, diamonds, etc. for first place. But these are competitions of the highest level. Other professional tournaments, which, it would seem, should be no lower level, are not always so... Moreover, for some reason no one wants to hold a grand prix in Russia. It is very profitable, it is very right and will influence growth - to organize an international tournament by inviting everyone here. Both Coleman and Cutler will come. I talked to Cutler. I asked Cutler, “Are you coming here?” "Why not!" - he answered. But after Borodin did this here, many very much doubt the success of the event. They don’t want to come here for one simple reason. They believe that Russians are deceivers. Everyone has their own problems with this. And I encountered the grand prix that Borodin held. Even with the same tickets that were sold to me, although I was a participant. And for my relatives who came from St. Petersburg, I had to buy tickets. These are the little nuances. We must not forget about them. I understand, of course, that this is a business. But we shouldn’t forget about image in business either.

Angelina: Alexander, tell me, maybe in Russia we need to adopt some foreign traditions, methods related to holding competitions?

Alexander Fedorov: We have better traditions. They need to learn from us! And not for us with them. Because, by and large, they are losing enormously.

Angelina: In Russia, the attitude towards bodybuilding is ambiguous. What's happening abroad? How do people perceive bodybuilding abroad? It is the attitude of ordinary people.

Alexander Fedorov: In California, special attention is paid at every step, wherever you find yourself. Because the governor is Arnold Schwarzenegger. There are special cafes where you can just come and find any dietary food. It's a little worse in New York. But it’s probably the same everywhere. There is just a certain circle of people. For example, if there are competitions planned, the hall will be full without much advertising. And so, basically, more or less the same.

Albert: What are your plans for the future?

Alexander Fedorov: Grandiose. Show the form that should be. Let me explain a little. Everyone expects me to show the form I showed at the 2003 European Championships. But look at the photos. I assure you that this form will not give me anything good as a professional. Professionals are on a different level. If here it is called a terrible relief, then there is no such thing there. There is a concept of condition. Conditioning means juicy muscles and good development. Nobody needs bone carving. They lose with her there. Bone carving is only suitable for black people, who have thin bones and weigh 90 kilograms. With my weight of 120 kg, bone carving simply will not work. I will seem flat and smooth - nothing, in a word. Therefore, now it is very important for me to get the best shape, no matter what my weight is - I need juicy muscles, large volumes and good development. This is what needs to be achieved. And the sooner the better. Although, of course, this will take time. It was not possible to show off my form at the Night of Champions. Of course I'm not happy. I'm not happy with the form I showed! And I don’t hide it! But I'm trying to do something. When people ask me now what needs to be done, I cannot advise anything until I have done it. I'll tell you everything when the result comes. And this is the path that sooner or later still needs to be taken. And people judge, say something. But I have already stopped paying attention to it. For me the task is to show the form. Let time pass. Now there is something to do - the AFS company. It produces its own T-shirts, which can be purchased in the online store. Two batches have already been made, but this is just the beginning. Then, perhaps, there will be tailoring of a small batch of clothes and their own advertising campaigns. Although, returning to the sad thing, all this, as they say, is on a public basis, and not centralized.

Angelina: It seems that, unfortunately, there is no support for athletes.

Alexander Fedorov: I can’t say that there is no support at all. I've been lucky in my life. And an example of this is the Professional Bodybuilding and Fitness League, which helped me return to the sport. In part, this is Konstantin Nikolaevich Bochkarev. At one time he provided support and very strong support. Helped prepare for the trip to Mr. Olympia. That is, they provide assistance, but in a piecemeal manner or something. There is no permanent basis. I'm not even talking about myself. Everything is clear with me, at least I have a contract. What can we say about the guys who don’t have it and are just starting out?! It's hard for them! When they get into serious shape, how much money do they invest?! What time is it?! After all, during this time they could have earned this money somewhere. Bodybuilding requires a colossal amount of both.

Angelina: Alexander, you talk about the form, what the standards are, about what you want. In your opinion, where will bodybuilding go next? How will they be assessed? By mass, by relief? Will this be some kind of symbiosis?

Alexander Fedorov: Nobody knows this. Even those judges who judge competitions. Because the criteria are unclear. First they inform you that points will be deducted for a bulging belly. When you want to trim your waist and come to a competition, you realize that everyone has a belly. Denis James with a belly, Colman...Yes, everyone with bellies. There is no escape from this. Enough only for the first words. The night of champions was judged without bellies. Agree. The judging is objective - I don’t argue. But then this trend changes. Therefore, it is unknown what they will want tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

Angelina: So it’s impossible to even partially predict what will happen in a year without knowing what will happen at the next competitions?

Alexander Fedorov: It is impossible to predict anything. As of today, for example, the contract I had with Flex has been terminated. Cause? The company is being sold. You can argue whether it is objective or not. But Flex and Muscle&Fitness were put up for auction. And somehow it’s unclear why and why. Most likely, everything will be released, and I think in the same edition. The situation is obviously internal. Marcus Ruhl also lost his contract, who, in principle, now performed very well. Why is this being done? Well, of course, this is politics. And I will say that, by and large, a contract with America is not a guarantee of stability. If someone thinks this is good... Yes, it is convenient. But it's unreliable. Today I am a professional athlete. But no one will give me guarantees that tomorrow they won’t call me and say - Alex, we no longer have a contract. And I'll stay on the street. It turns out that the sword is still double-edged. If someone thinks that life is so good, we can switch places.

Albert: Alexander, we wish you good luck, new titles! So that everyone knows that Russia can! What would you like to wish to the readers of SportPort.ru?

Alexander Fedorov: Let me paraphrase a well-known saying - you may not become an athlete, but you must be a person! This comes first. Because today there are muscles, but tomorrow they will not be there. You can lose muscle. I lost them literally within a month when I stopped training. And I know what it is. Still, the human spirit is what remains and what is really important.

Workout

In the process of preparing for tournaments, Fedorov rarely changes the composition of his training sessions. The only thing that can be changed is the tempo. It is increasing. Due to the fact that an athlete devotes more time to exercise, he begins to rest less. Even two workouts a day take up almost all my free time. Between them, Alexander must have time to rest a little, pay attention to his wife Natalya and do a few things around the house, for example, take out the trash or go to the store.

During preparation, the athlete performs overhead presses and squats with a barbell. At home, the wife prepares suitable music for her husband, to which he performs a free program. After this, Fedorov returns to the gym, where he will again do squats with a barbell on his shoulders, on his chest, and a bench press.

Nutrition

Proper nutrition is the basis for muscle growth, or so it is commonly believed. In his interviews, Fedorov often said that he tries to eat everything except fatty foods. He doesn't have a meal schedule. The athlete is simply trying to eat as much as possible.

Alexander loves to eat what his wife cooks. A bodybuilder himself cannot call himself a good cook. In one of his interviews, Fedorov called the cooking process one of the least favorite things in his life.

Preparation for competitions

Preparing for participation in a tournament is not only about muscle training and proper nutrition. The emotional state of the athlete plays a big role. In the process of preparing for the tournament, Fedorov often suffers from insomnia. This seemed especially true for the first performance after returning to big-time sports.

Preparation for the first tournament, for which Alexander announced his candidacy after resuming his bodybuilding career, was generally one of the most difficult in the professional career of a Russian athlete. He had to start almost from scratch. Muscle memory was a big help in training, but the eight years of break had a very strong impact. Already during the tournament itself, Fedorov began to realize that his muscles were very heavy. After the end of the competition, Alexander did not play sports for almost half a month, but tried to simply rest and at least restore his body a little after grueling training in preparation for the performance.

Love and family

The year 2001 is considered significant in the personal life of Alexander Fedorov, since at this time he got married. For an athlete, a wife becomes not only a beloved woman, but also a true friend and support. There was not a single performance by the athlete where his significant other was not present and supported.

Natalia Fedorova gave birth to her husband three children. The bodybuilder himself says that his family is his greatest achievement in life, because he is surrounded by people who truly love, support and understand in everything. As for returning to big-time sports, the athlete is in no hurry to draw conclusions about complete retirement.

He considers himself able to return to the big stage at any time. But now his priorities are focused on his family.

The main things in the life of Alexander Fedorov

Alexander very clearly distinguishes between sports and personal life. He believes that the main thing in bodybuilding or any other sport is the goal. If a person does not have a goal, then good results should not be expected from him.

To become a bodybuilder, you need to be naturally gifted. Fedorov believes that an athlete should monitor the proportions and always try to maintain them in ideal condition or close to it. The bodybuilder also says that one should not focus on only one category of muscles, but it is necessary to develop them all in proportion. However, there are times when some muscles are not as responsive to training as others. If we talk about Alexander himself, he trains his hips very well, so he doesn’t focus much attention on them. At the same time, the bodybuilder focuses very heavily on the chest muscles.

Fedorov values openness in people, since he himself is like that and loves to communicate on an equal basis with everyone. Alexander tries to do everything possible to ensure that he is seen as a simple person, and so that no one envies him.
