How many calories are in oatmeal pancakes?

The calorie content of oatmeal depends on the recipe, cooking method, filling, and other factors. You can prepare a sweet treat as a replacement for overly fatty desserts. You can reduce the number of calories by removing frying oil from the ingredients, replacing sugar with fruit or a sweetener. The basis of oatmeal is complex carbohydrates, which can be diluted with additional fiber from vegetables, fats from nuts or cheese, fructose from fruits or proteins from cottage cheese. For example, recently oatmeal pancakes with bananas and cheese have become very popular.

  • eliminating the addition of oil during cooking will also remove a calorie or two. But remember that for frying without oil, it is better to use non-stick cookware
  • choose low-calorie toppings like cucumbers, salads, seasonal berries, or skip them altogether

Recipes

The simplest recipe

The classic oatmeal pancake recipe consists of the following ingredients:

  • two tablespoons of oatmeal
  • two chicken eggs
  • 4 tablespoons milk, can be replaced with boiling water
  • spices and seasonings to taste
  • vegetable oil for frying

These are the ingredients for one serving of the dish.

Cooking method:

Pour hot milk or water over oatmeal. Stir thoroughly to avoid lumps and let cool. After 5 minutes, beat the eggs into the steamed oatmeal (you can only use whites) and mix again. Do not add eggs to a hot mixture as they may curdle.

Heat a frying pan on the stove; you can grease it a little with any vegetable oil. Distribute the prepared mass. Fry on both sides for three to five minutes until golden brown. You need to carefully monitor the process, as the pancakes may burn.

That's all! This is the simplest recipe that will not take much time. The finished pancake can be eaten just like that, poured with honey or syrup, or wrapped in other types of fillings suggested below.

With banana

Oatmeal pancake stuffed with banana is one of the most popular healthy treats. It is ideal for proper nutrition.

It differs from the classic recipe in that it does not contain pepper. It's better to add a little stevia or honey to the dough, or you can just skip this point

  • two tablespoons of oatmeal
  • two chicken eggs
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • salt to taste
  • sweetener (stevia, honey, regular or brown sugar) to taste
  • a little vanilla for flavor
  • small amount of vegetable oil for frying

For filling:

  • 1 medium ripe banana
  • cinnamon optional

Prepare the dough according to the classic recipe, adjusting the sweetness. Fry with a small amount of oil or without it at all, as too much fat can spoil the taste of sweet oatmeal pancakes. Cut the bananas into small pieces onto the hot pancake and sprinkle with cinnamon. The filled pancake can be rolled into a tube or a corner. A properly prepared oat pancake will not break or crumble, and after cooling it will retain the shape that you gave it. It is important not to overcook the oatmeal pancake in the pan, as this will greatly spoil its taste, especially when combined with sweet foods.

With cottage cheese

Oatmeal curd pancakes can be prepared both sweet and savory. Depending on the idea, the addition of sugar, salt and other spices to the dough will vary. It is also possible to use completely unleavened dough.

You can mix berries, fruits, nuts, honey, chocolate, sugar, vanillin or cinnamon with cottage cheese for sweet oat pancakes. Greens, cheese, fresh vegetables, aromatic herbs and allspice - for salty dishes.

The correct cottage cheese for filling oat pancakes is low fat (up to 5% fat), but not low-fat. If the cottage cheese is too dry, you can grind it through a sieve and add a little milk or kefir. To the liquid cottage cheese that flows out, it is enough to add herbs, hard or curd cheese or other “diluting” ingredients.

Healthy oatmeal pancakes with cottage cheese include:

  • oatmeal - from two tablespoons for each serving
  • milk or other liquid - 4 tablespoons
  • a pair of chicken eggs
  • a small amount of vegetable oil
  • salt/sugar to taste
  • spices and seasonings also to taste
  • low-fat cottage cheese
  • fruits, vegetables, nuts, cheese or other types of toppings

Prepare oatmeal pancakes according to the classic recipe, based on your taste.

For the filling, mix cottage cheese and a pre-prepared base. There are millions of options for oatmeal pancakes with cottage cheese for proper nutrition.

Ready-made pancakes will contain a large amount of protein. This means that you can have dinner with them without a twinge of conscience, reaching the required daily protein intake.

With cheese

The most common salty filling of oat pancakes for proper nutrition is cheese. Most often, hard cheeses are used, which melt depending on the temperature and melt. But also very tasty oatmeal pancakes are made with salty Feta curd cheese, neutral Ricotta and Adygei. In the case of hard cheese, you get something like a healthy hot sandwich, which will be an excellent snack on the go. Different types of curd cheese require addition in the form of some other products, for example, herbs. An interesting option for connoisseurs of this dairy product can be obtained by combining different varieties and types of cheese, for example, hard cheese with curd cheese.

Preparing oatmeal pancake with cheese is very simple: you need to prepare a pancake from oatmeal according to the basic recipe and add cheese to it. The cheese can be wrapped inside or simply sprinkled on top and then wait until it melts.

On the water

This recipe differs significantly from the classic recipe only in that milk or any other liquid is replaced with hot water. In this case, it is best not to eat the rolled pancake empty, but to use one of the salty filling options, for example, with vegetables and cheese. This way, oatmeal pancakes made with water will be as tasty as possible. Also in this case, you can add a little more oil and spices so that the pancake does not look like a tasteless cake.

To prepare you will need:

  • 2 tablespoons oatmeal
  • 4 tablespoons boiling water
  • 1-2 eggs
  • vegetable oil
  • spices, seasonings and sauces for taste

Steam oatmeal in boiling water, allow time to cool and mix with eggs. Mix thoroughly to remove lumps. Fry the finished dough in a frying pan with butter on both sides until golden brown. For taste, you can pour sauces or add vegetable filling.

Oatmeal according to Dukan

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp. oat bran or mixture
  • 50 g soft cottage cheese with 0% fat content
  • Salt/sweetener

The cooking process is the same as in classic oatmeal pancakes. The filling can also be anything: meat, cottage cheese, fruit, or even without it at all.

Oatmeal without eggs

In oatmeal pancakes, you can replace eggs with a mixture of any flour, water/milk and banana, which will act as a binding component.

Pancakes without eggs, but with banana, will be immediately sweet, which means you don’t have to worry about the filling and extra sugar.

For children

When thinking about children's oatmeal pancakes, something sweet and dessert immediately comes to mind. Cooking oatmeal pancakes is one way to “teach” a child to eat oatmeal.

The fillings for children's oatmeal pancakes can be fruits, honey, chocolate or nuts - everything that children love so much! It is best to prepare oatmeal pancakes for a child in a slow cooker or microwave, so as not to burden the young digestive system with fried foods.

Sweet

Sweet oatmeal pancake is very tasty on its own, which means it does not need additional filling. It is best to prepare sweet oatmeal pancakes for proper nutrition not from flakes, but from oatmeal, which will result in delicate dessert pancakes.

You can sweeten the dough with sugar (white or cane), honey, stevia, fructose or even artificial sweeteners - it all depends on the purpose. For example, to prepare sweet oatmeal pancakes for children, it is better to use honey, and those losing weight can use sweetened oatmeal pancakes as desserts.

On kefir

To prepare oatmeal pancakes with kefir you will need:

  • 2 tbsp. oatmeal
  • 1 tbsp. kefir
  • a little baking powder or soda
  • 1-2 eggs
  • salt/sugar to taste

The use of kefir in the preparation of oatmeal pancakes makes them close to pancakes. It is best to bake these pancakes in a frying pan with the lid closed, then the baking soda will make them rise a little and become even tastier!

With apple

Recipe for oatmeal pancakes with apple:

You need to add grated apple without peel to the base dough and bake in any convenient way. This method has its great advantage - adding apples to the dough reduces the calorie content of the final dish, which can be a lifesaver for those losing weight.

With chocolate

Oatmeal with chocolate will not leave anyone indifferent, and will especially please those with a sweet tooth. Although this is not exactly a recipe for oatmeal pancakes for proper nutrition, such a variation in the preparation of the dish is acceptable. It is advisable to use dark chocolate, as it will give a richer taste and is considered healthier. As a base for oatmeal pancake with chocolate, it is better to take a thin oatmeal pancake, not sweet, since the sweetness from the chocolate will be enough, and for special gourmets who like contrast, you can make the oatmeal pancake even a little salty.

You can add chocolate to oatmeal pancakes in different ways: in the dough, wrap the chocolate inside the pancake, or pour it on top.

In order to make chocolate oatmeal, you need:

  • mix 2 tbsp. l. oatmeal with 4 tbsp. l. hot milk, stir and let cool.
  • in this option, you can limit yourself to 1 egg, which must be added to the oat mixture in a bowl and mixed thoroughly again.
  • add 1 tbsp to the resulting dough. l. sugar and cocoa powder, a little vanilla

This dough is prepared similarly to regular dough, preferably with the least amount of vegetable oil or without it at all.

To make oatmeal pancakes with chocolate inside, you need to prepare the dough according to the recipe described above, but exclude sugar and cocoa.

Pieces of chocolate are placed on half of the prepared hot oatmeal pancake, and then the chocolate is covered with the other half of the pancake. Once the chocolate has melted between the two hot halves of the oatmeal pancake, you can serve it.

In a slow cooker

You can also cook oatmeal pancakes in a slow cooker. To do this, mix any oatmeal dough to taste in the multicooker bowl, set the “Baking” mode and bake on each side until done. The good thing about the method of cooking in a slow cooker is that the dish is very likely not to burn, which means your breakfast will be successful. The lid of the multicooker can be closed so that the dough rises a little, or it can be left open for a drier version.

Oatmeal pancake made from oat flour

You can prepare oatmeal pancakes not only from oatmeal, but also from oatmeal. These pancakes turn out to be as similar as possible to regular wheat pancakes. They are best suited for desserts.

Oatmeal can be purchased ready-made at any supermarket, or you can prepare it yourself. To do this, you need to grind the oatmeal in a blender to a state close to first or second grade wheat flour. This oatmeal will brew faster in hot milk or water, making the dough more homogeneous and the finished pancakes neat and tender.

You need to mix oatmeal with liquid in the same proportions as regular flakes, and they are prepared just as simply, without significant differences.

Oatmeal with bran

In addition to the fact that you can replace regular oatmeal with oatmeal, you can add bran to it. Oatmeal pancakes with bran are most useful for those losing weight and for people who have intestinal problems.

Adding a little bran to oatmeal dough means enriching it with fiber.

To prepare oatmeal pancakes with bran, it is fashionable to replace up to half of the oatmeal with them. That is, when preparing one serving of oat pancakes, you can replace one of the two tablespoons with bran, and everything else remains the same.

With tomatoes

Tomatoes are a very common vegetable filling for oatmeal pancakes for proper nutrition. Using tomatoes as an additive will not only make the dish tastier and more varied, but will also significantly reduce its calorie content, because tomatoes have very low calories. A bonus to this plus is also an additional portion of vegetable fiber to the dish. Tomatoes in oatmeal pancakes can be combined with other vegetables, cheese and herbs.

Vegan recipe

Although eggs and milk are some of the important ingredients in the original recipe, there are variations without them, which allows you to turn oatmeal into a dish without animal products.

If milk in oatmeal pancakes is simply replaced with water or plant milk, then with eggs it’s not so smooth.

Instead of two eggs, you can use a few extra spoons of water with another type of flour, which will serve as a binding component. The most common flour, wheat, is best suited for this role, but if you really want, you can replace it with buckwheat or flaxseed. It is important to remember that when working with wheat flour, you need to remember the baking powder and slaked soda so as not to end up with a rubbery cake for breakfast.

With protein

Is there an oatmeal that is rich not only in complex carbohydrates, which provide energy, but also in proteins, which are so important for athletes for muscle growth? Yes! The recipe for oatmeal pancakes is simple and generally no different from the original, but the high calorie content due to the increased protein content makes them unusual

You will need:

  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 50 ml water
  • 1 tsp. protein
  • 3-4 egg whites
  • sweetener, preferably natural

You can bake “sports” oatmeal pancakes either in a frying pan or in the microwave.

In the microwave

Cooking oatmeal pancakes in the microwave involves baking them not in a frying pan, but in the microwave. This method allows you to completely eliminate oil from the composition of pancakes, for example, when using silicone molds or mats.

To cook oatmeal pancakes in the microwave, you need to mix any dough to taste, distribute it in a mold and put it in the oven for 3-4 minutes at a power of 800 W

With banana and cheese

The much-loved oatmeal pancake with banana and hard cheese evokes particular gastronomic admiration. They say that once you try it, you will never want to have anything else for breakfast. The combination of oatmeal, bananas and cheese has become something of a local classic.

This type of filling is very easy to prepare. Place sliced banana on half of the hot oatmeal pancake, sprinkle with grated cheese on top and cover with the other half. Everything is extremely simple, but the taste evokes admiration and leaves no one indifferent. This option was especially liked by people who love the combination of sweet and salty in one dish.
