Initially, Anadrol was developed as a drug for the treatment of osteoporosis and anemia (anemia), as well as to stimulate muscle growth in poorly nourished and weakened patients. Oxymetholone has been approved by the FDA for use in humans. Later, non-steroidal drugs were created that effectively treated anemia and osteoporosis, and therefore the popularity of Anadrol decreased and by 1993 Syntex decided to stop producing the drug in the same way as many other manufacturers. However, oxymetholone still remains in medicine, as new studies have shown that Anadrol is effective in the treatment of HIV-infected patients.

Simply put, this substance, due to its high anabolic properties, allows athletes to quickly gain weight, increase strength, and also treat injuries.

Description and brief history of appearance

The steroid Oxymethalone first saw the world in 1959, when the Syntex Pharmaceuticals organization invented it to treat ailments caused by an imbalance of red blood cells (cells that carry oxygen). It is synthetic in nature and has many different names: Oxidex, Anadrol, A 50, etc.

For quite a long time it was believed that most of the weight gain achieved with oxymetholone was due to water. At the same time, around the middle of the last decade, professional bodybuilders began to actively use oxymetholone in pre-competition preparation. Now its use is not limited to just one or two days immediately before the start - “oxy” can be actively used almost throughout the entire period of preparation for competitions; in this case, no excess accumulation of water under the skin occurs.

Researchers from the University of Southern California decided to thoroughly understand what oxymetholone is and what can be expected from it. Men aged 65-80 years were selected as study subjects - such a choice would most clearly highlight the advantages of the study drug, if any were discovered, and also exclude the influence of third-party factors (in all subjects, the level of their own testosterone was below normal). Another important point: the subjects did not engage in training at all (thus another extraneous factor was excluded). Protein intake was 1 g per kg body weight.

Course results:

[3] Those taking 50 mg of oxymetholone per day gained an average of 3.3 kg in total weight over 12 weeks. The increase in those who took 100 mg of the drug per day was 4.2 kg. The subjects did not take additional protein and did not exercise.

At the same time, not only the total mass changed, but also the composition of the body. That is, the subjects not only gained weight, but also lost fat, especially in the abdominal area, that is, in fact, the increase in muscle tissue was even more pronounced. In the first group, the average loss of adipose tissue was 2.6 kg, in the second - 2.5 kg. Interestingly, it was in the abdominal area that representatives of the second group lost significantly more (2.2 kg versus 1.7 kg) without training.

Conclusions:

Oxymetholone allows you to achieve significant increases in muscle mass. Moreover, these increases can also be obtained by those who do not train at all.
Oxymetholone helps “burn” subcutaneous fat; the best results can be obtained in the abdominal area. That is, “oxy” can be used as a fat-burning agent by those men who have problems losing belly fat.
Contrary to popular belief, oxymetholone does not have a significant effect on liver function.

If we talk about anabolic substances, it is important to take into account the active ability. It is manifested precisely by Oxymethalon, which is of synthetic origin. That is, its molecule in the drug is the main active element that affects weight. All the rest are considered auxiliary and necessary for assimilation. Simply put, Oxymethalon is both the name of both the drug and the substance from which it consists.

Side effects of oxymetholone[edit | edit code]

The 17-alpha-alkyl group in the structure of the drug allows it to bypass the liver without being destroyed, but this makes Anadrol toxic to the liver.[4] Studies were conducted for 30 weeks, where subjects used Oxymetholone at a dose of 50 mg per day. As a result, various side effects were identified, including on the liver.

In the 2003 Schroeder study[5], subjects received a dose of 50 or 100 mg/day, and only one of the subjects had a significant increase in ALT (alanine aminotransferase) over 12 weeks of continuous use[6]. But, as it turned out later, this was due to drinking alcohol immediately before donating blood. Repeat analysis did not reveal any increase in ALT. In all other subjects, ALT and AST increased slightly, but invariably remained within normal limits. Thus, the toxic effect on the liver is largely exaggerated. The safest dosage of the drug is 100 mg per day (or less).

It should also be noted that oxymetholone does not convert into estrogens, however, quite often it can cause fluid accumulation in the body, gynecomastia, increase blood pressure and some others. It is assumed that Anadrol itself can bind and activate estrogen receptors, so the level of estradiol should be monitored during the cycle, and based on this, use aromatase inhibitors or, more preferably, take blockers of the above receptors.

It should be noted that oxymetholone does not have progestogenic activity, and there is not a single study that would clearly indicate its presence. The drug itself is a derivative of dihydrotestosterone.

In some cases (when using large doses), the drug can cause diarrhea, worsen appetite, and cause mild nausea. Oxymetholone suppresses the production of its own testosterone to a lesser extent than most steroids.

The Anadrol course is suitable for men over 21 years of age for intensive muscle gain.
The duration of the course of oxymetholone is 4-6 weeks. Do not make the course longer than 6 weeks, firstly, because the greatest results are observed during the first three weeks of the course, and secondly, because of possible toxicity to the liver.
The maximum easily tolerated dosage of Anadrol is 100 mg per day. Firstly, because it has been proven that larger dosage increases do not lead to better results.[7] Secondly, the risk of side effects of anadrol increases. The optimal dose for beginners is 50 mg per day. At the same time, there are a number of dosage regimens, the daily dosage of which reaches 200 mg. Taking the drug with a gradual increase in dosage makes sense only if there are concerns about its tolerability. Usually the drug is taken in a stable dosage from the first to the last day of the course. A gradual reduction in dosage has no practical meaning.

Considering that Anadrol has low affinity for androgen receptors [8] (poorly binds to them), other highly androgenic hormones will be able to have a full effect through interaction with these receptors without competition with Anadrol.

To gain muscle mass, Anadrol is combined with Testosterone, Boldenone, Primobolan or Trenbolone.
To increase strength, it is most often used with various Testosterone esters. A very effective combination is the combination of Oxymetholone with a suspension of stanzolol, while athletes note a rapid increase in strength. But it is necessary to take into account the high risk of injury of this combination, especially for people with chronic injuries.
Oxymetholone is practically not used for drying and relief due to its ability to provoke severe fluid retention.
Competitive level bodybuilders often use a single dose of 100-250 mg of Oxymetholone on the day of going on stage. This gives fullness to the athlete's muscles.

How does it affect the body?

The steroid profile of this drug is no different from its similar samples (Turinabol, Winstrol, Deca, etc.) and has a greater effect on the musculoskeletal system. It is recommended not to exceed a daily dose of more than 30 mg. Taken in 2-3 doses (for example, 20 mg in the morning, 10 in the afternoon). Methane (methandienone) is toxic to the liver, and the drug is best taken after meals.
The course of methandrostenolone starts with 10 mg, after 2-3 days the dose is gradually increased to 20-30 mg per day (to assess tolerability). The duration is usually 6 weeks.

Thanks to its properties, Oxymethalon ensures rapid recovery and a return to your previous life. But with the wrong approach, you can cause enormous harm to the body.

For example, the presence of kidney problems categorically prohibits the use of any medications, since they greatly burden the excretory system. Also, this steroid is not recommended for use by athletes with low blood pressure and liver disorders, and especially by pregnant women. In general, to be fair, anabolic steroids cause the least harm to a healthy and resilient body.

After course therapy

In order to restore the body’s previous performance, after a course of treatment it is necessary to carry out PCT. The essence of the process is the use of a drug (for example, Clomiphene), which stimulates the natural release of sex hormones and restoration of metabolism. It is better to start therapy a week after using Oxymetholone and continue it for 14 days. It is quite possible to find drugs for PCT in the pharmacy. As a rule, the standard dose is two tablets in the first week (morning and evening) and one in the second (morning only).
