Technique for performing basic kicks in point fighting (semi-contact)


This article provides a description of the main kicks, as well as their names in Russian, English, Japanese and Korean.

The blows indicated in this article are used in
Kickboxing, Karate, Taekwondo .
Also, similar strikes are used in other martial arts, for example, Kudo and MMA .

The purpose of this article is to show the general principles used when delivering basic kicks in various martial arts.

In addition, a video of each blow is presented, illustrating its actual use during a fight or the process of mastering it.

Protection

The main way to protect against a low kick is considered to be the “Thai shield”, or, in Russian, a stand. How to do it? From a fighting stance, the athlete sharply throws his leg up, opens his thigh so that the opponent’s shin is perpendicular to your thigh (the inner part of the thigh should be facing the opponent). In this case, the supporting leg should be tense, and the arms should cover the body and block oncoming blows.

The second popular defense method is to take a step back. In this case, the leg on which the low kick should land is sharply removed back, and the supporting leg is placed under the enemy’s attack.

The third method is breaking the distance; it involves abruptly moving away from the attack. But there is one serious drawback here - if you retreat, your opponent maintains an advantage and will continue to attack.

Another option is to counterattack your opponent. In this case, you need to hit the enemy’s attacking leg. As a rule, these are low kicks to the knee joint. Counter-strikes are one of the most difficult methods of defense, and they also carry the risk of causing serious injury to the opponent.

How to train a low kick?

For exercise, water-filled bags that are installed on the floor are best suited. Hanging ones are used less often, but they must be quite long. Let's look at the equipment suitable for training and its features:

  1. Water-filled floor bag (for example, inexpensive Reactor Bag at a price of 8,990 rubles). Ideal for beginners. The surface is convenient to hit, and the simulator is suitable for practicing all types of kicks and punches.
  2. A water-filled hanging bag (cost from 20,000 rubles) or a cheaper boxing bag (3,950 rubles), which is less convenient for practicing a strike, but is profitable from a financial point of view. The main advantage of the hanging bag is that when hit, it begins to swing on the chain and the student needs to apply not only strength, but also dexterity in order to hit it again.
  3. The boxing dummy is only suitable for practicing the downward low kick, but is good from an anatomical point of view. It can also be used when throwing punches. For 24,590 rubles you can purchase variations of red and flesh colors.

More practice, more diligence, the presence of professional trainers and live sparring partners - all this will help you develop the correct low kick technique. After mastering the technique, you can move on to more complex strikes.

The situation in MMA

In this sport, fighters kick with extreme whiplash and pull their leg in their direction. This avoids getting your legs caught.

Also in MMA, situations often arise when the fight moves directly to the Octagon grid. Here athletes work with straight and angular knee attacks. The movement comes from the grip. The main target is the hips.

In all leg attacks in MMA, fighters try not to use ostentatious manipulations, for example, long (more than 1-2 seconds) jumps on one leg, and not to use high jumping attacks. All strikes are made from a secure standing position or in a microscopic jump.

General treatises

Getting kicked in the head is comparable to being run over by a car. They have a strength of up to 500 kg. This is a real deadly weapon. Naturally, they require careful development and correct technical execution.

The masters perform them powerfully and lightning fast. This helps them in the ring, as well as in situations where they need to protect themselves and their loved ones.

The most famous versions of such attacks are mawashi, spinners, high kicks, etc. By mastering them perfectly, you can quickly end the battle as a winner.

Pinwheel

This name is given to impacts whose rotation exceeds 180 degrees. In fights it is extremely rare to be able to perform a move at 270 or 360 degrees.

And the execution of such a blow requires the highest skill. A correctly executed and accurate attack immediately leads to a knockout.

The kick can be used in different disciplines where it is allowed. To implement it, you need explosive leg strength, excellent jumping ability and a sense of balance. All this is worked out through long, hard work.
