Women's wrist circumference. Table, body norm, how to measure

How to determine your glove size

Measure your hand

The size of a person's right and left hand may vary slightly.
Measure the one you usually write with. To do this, wrap a measuring tape around your palm at the widest point, along the bones of your fingers, without grabbing your thumb. The tape should fit snugly. Bend your palm slightly. Remember what number you got. If you don't have a measuring tape, use a piece of string instead. Wrap it around your arm, mark the length you get, and measure it with a ruler.

If you have very long fingers, then measure the distance from the tip of the middle finger to the first transverse line of the wrist. When buying gloves, check this length with the seller.

Determine your size

Method 1

There are two common glove sizing systems: numeric and letter. According to the first, the size coincides with the girth of the hand. European manufacturers traditionally use inches for measurements. According to the second system, the volume of the hand corresponds to a certain marking: S, M, L and so on.

Use the chart to determine your size. Choose the number in centimeters that is closest to your measurements.

Method 2

If you don’t have a table at hand, convert centimeters to inches and determine the size using the formula:

Size in inches = Arm circumference in centimeters ÷ 2.54

Round the resulting number down to 0.5. That is, if your palm circumference is 17 cm, divide it by 2.54. The result will be 6.69. When rounded, it comes out to 6.5 in traditional markings.

Please note that labeling may vary slightly among different manufacturers.

Norms of wrist circumference for women by body type

Wrist circumference in women and men is a value expressed in centimeters, called the “Soloviev index” (IS).

The value applies to:

  • obstetrics when predicting possible pregnancy complications;
  • dietetics in the treatment of obesity;
  • sports medicine when developing training plans.

In accordance with this index, there are 3 main somatotypes.

Asthenic type (ectomorphs)

Asthenics (ectomorphs) are considered women with an IP of less than 15 and men with an IP of less than 18.

They are characterized by:

  • fragile physique;
  • long and thin arms and legs;
  • narrow shoulders;
  • flat chest;
  • high growth.

Asthenic type (ectomorphs)
As a rule, in youth, people of this type tend to be thin and have difficulty gaining not only fat, but also muscle mass , which is explained by the high rate of metabolic processes occurring in the body.

But in adulthood, despite a weak appetite and lack of physical activity, fat appears mainly on the stomach. To correct their figure, asthenics will need strength exercises, which will help develop muscles and a diet high in protein.

Tall, thin, with small breasts and narrow hips, women with an asthenic physique are today considered the ideal of beauty. However, connoisseurs of other female somatotypes find them too angular and blame them for the lack of femininity.

Normosthenic type (mesomorphs)

Women with wrist volume from 15 to 17 cm and men whose wrist volume ranges from 18 to 20 cm are classified as normosthenics or mesomorphs.

Normosthenic type (mesomorphs)

This is the most common and most advantageous body type, which is characterized by:

  • average height;
  • strong, well-developed muscles;
  • attractive body contours.

People of this type:

  • mobile and active;
  • have a healthy appetite;
  • with adequate physical activity, they easily build muscle mass;
  • in the absence of loads, they easily gain weight.

Body types
The optimal strategy for a normosthetic person who has decided to lose weight would be to reduce the consumption of fats and carbohydrates in combination with cardio exercises aimed at creating a calorie deficit and strength training to strengthen muscles.

Mesamorphic women usually:

  • medium height;
  • slim;
  • have well developed muscles.

However, the fat layer covering them gives the figure a femininity. Thanks to the wide bones, a woman of this somatotype, even after several months of a strict diet, does not look like a skinny asthenic.

Hypersthenic type (endomorphs)

A hypersthenic person will have a wrist girth greater than 17 cm (women) and 20 cm (men).

Hypersthenic type (endomorphs)

A typical representative of this somatotype has:

  • below average height;
  • the body is massive;
  • the neck is short and thick.

Endomorphs are characterized by a slow metabolism , and for this reason they are prone to rapid weight gain, but it can be quite difficult for them to part with extra pounds.

A set of measures aimed at correcting the figure should include exercises that stimulate metabolic processes, as well as a diet high in “slow” carbohydrates and protein with a minimum amount of fat.

Women with this body type:

  • short in stature;
  • prone to obesity;
  • have short legs and arms;
  • They fail to achieve the desired slimness, even following the most grueling diets.

Fat is mainly deposited in the lower part of the body, which makes a woman feel even more complex about her less-than-ideal figure.

This is the theory, but in practice everything looks much more complicated: the fact is that in their pure form, all of the listed body types are rare, in the appearance of the vast majority of people there are features of 2-3 somatotypes, among which one is considered dominant.

Another factor that complicates the process of determining the somatotype is the fat layer that increases with age , smoothing out the differences between body types. But, since the circumference of the wrist remains practically unchanged, measuring it allows you to bypass all difficulties.

How to choose the perfect gloves

The most reliable way to choose gloves is to try them on, because even hands of the same size can have different shapes.

  • The most important rule is that your hand should be comfortable. The right glove does not restrict movement, puts on and takes off without problems, and your fingers are completely bent.
  • Smooth out the glove you are wearing. If something is tight, loose or bunches, then it’s not your size. The right one fits like a second skin.
  • The lengths of the fingers of the glove and yours should match. This means that there is no empty space inside the glove either between the fingers or at their tips.
  • The skin stretches over time. Therefore, if you have a choice between a slightly tight glove and a slightly loose one, choose the one that is tighter.
  • The fewer seams on leather gloves, the better: full-grain leather gloves last longer and stretch more evenly than pieces made from pieces.
  • For winter, it is permissible to buy an accessory half a size larger: this way there will be warm air between your fingers and the material. These gloves may not fit as perfectly as autumn gloves, but your hands will not freeze.

If it is not possible to try on, then choose gloves that correspond to your size according to the table. Read reviews about the product and the seller first. Make sure your purchase can be returned.

Design

Gloves are a traditional item of clothing with compartments for each finger. The design dates back to the times of Ancient Egypt. The materials used for manufacturing and their purpose are endlessly varied: from rubber medical gloves to motorcycle gloves with gauntlets. There are a dozen types of leather used to make gloves: from inexpensive pig leather to elite deerskin and lamb leather.

Gloves, mittens, fingerless gloves

Mittens are knitted mittens, familiar from childhood, with two compartments: one for the thumb, the other for the rest. It is believed that they retain heat more effectively, since individual fingers freeze faster. Most often, mittens are knitted from wool, but men's mittens made from other materials (or combinations thereof), such as leather or heat-resistant fabric, are also not uncommon. The purpose is very diverse: for everyday wear, for sports (usually skiing), for professional needs.

Fingerless gloves - missing finger compartments can be both a design element and have practical significance (for example, in sports products).

Average bracelet lengths

The sizes of bracelets vary from minimum (children's) to maximum (men's). If you buy jewelry online and it is impossible to look and try on the product, then you can use average data taking into account your body type.

Body typeWrist circumference, cm
GuysGirls
fragileLess than 1815,5
Average18-19,515,5-17
DenseOver 19Over 17

Each person, when choosing an accessory for his hand, is guided by his own taste and feelings. Some people wear tight jewelry on their wrists, while others like them to fall down to their fingers. Therefore, do not rely on averages, but measure your wrist. How to find out the size of the bracelet on your hand, read below.

Table for men's wrist jewelry

Bracelets for men in ancient times were of a symbolic or sacred nature. Jewelry was worn by warriors to show their masculinity and to protect their hands from enemy blows, priests as a ritual sign, and artisans used straps to count the number of goods sold. It is also necessary for a man from the modern generation to wear an accessory on his hand. Experience suggests that women find such an accessory very sexy.

The sizes of men's bracelets are also marked taking into account the length of the wrist of the future owner. For boys, these indicators are higher than for girls. For example, the average length of wrist jewelry for men is 17-22 cm, for women - 18 cm. In this case, the circumference of the wrist corresponds to the letter designation.

The following tables will help you choose the right bracelet size for a man:

On a note! If the size of the wrist jewelry is chosen correctly, a finger should fit freely between the strap and the wrist.

Digital marking system

European glove manufacturers mark sizes with numbers according to French inches. This size is used in all countries thanks to the French company Isotoner. Today this company is very popular in Russia as a global brand. According to European standards, men's and women's gloves have the same markings.

The European digital type of marking of gloves for men and women looks like this:

  • size 5 – 16 cm;
  • size 5.5 – 16.5 cm;
  • size 6 – 17.5 cm;
  • size 6.5 – 18 cm;
  • size 7 – 19 cm;
  • size 7.5 - 20.5 cm;
  • size 8 – 22 cm;
  • size 8.5 – 23.5 cm;
  • size 9 – 24 cm;
  • size 9.5 – 26 cm;
  • size 10 – 27 cm.

Symbols of measurements

Measurements (dimensional characteristics) are designated by the following letters:

  • girths - O;
  • half-girths - C;
  • width - W;
  • lengths, distances, arcs - D;
  • height - B;
  • height (body length) - P;
  • the distance between centers or protruding points - C;
  • diameters - d4;
  • depth - G;
  • body position - P.

Small letters or numbers to the right of capital letters indicate measurement locations.

Measurements of girths, lengths, heights, as well as the width of the shoulder slope are recorded in full size, measurements of half-girths of widths, distances between centers - in half size (Ssh, St, Sb, Shs, Shg, Tsg).

All measurements are recorded in centimeters.

Advice for men. Which hand should I wear the bracelet on?

Modern society, especially youth society, is increasingly abandoning norms in clothing, hairstyle, and makeup. Appearance is a person’s ability to express their individuality. But still, some etiquette rules remain truly useful. For example, the point about which hand a man wears a bracelet on is unknown to many of us. And the rules are simple:

  1. If a man has a gold wedding ring on his right hand, then it is better to put a silver bracelet on his left. Since these metals do not combine well with each other.
  2. Gold wrist accessories should be worn on the right wrist.
  3. Jewelry made of steel looks harmonious on any brush.

In addition, you need to consider how the bracelet should fit on your hand:

  • Buy steel jewelry that is loose so that it moves easily on the wrist. That is, choosing an accessory according to the size of the brush in this case is not a prerequisite. Add another 1-1.5 cm to the data obtained on the wrist circumference.
  • Leather accessories, on the contrary, should fit snugly to the hand, but not tighten the blood flow. If the owner’s little finger passes between the bracelet and the skin, it means the choice was made correctly.

On a note! In ancient Rus' there was no word bracelet. Hand jewelry worn by both women and men of different classes was called a hoop. That is, what tightens, covers the hands. The same name was given to prison shackles.

Main anthropometric points

When measuring a female figure, the following points are used to construct patterns:

  • apical - the highest point of the crown;
  • cervical - the apex of the spinous process of the seventh cervical vertebra;
  • the point of the base of the neck is the intersection of the neck girth line with a conventional vertical plane cutting the shoulder slope in half;
  • clavicular - the highest point of the sternal end of the clavicle;
  • humeral - the point at the intersection of the superior outer edge of the acromion process of the scapula with a conventional vertical plane cutting the area of the shoulder joint in half;
  • humeral acromial - the most protruding point of the acromial process of the scapula;
  • radial - the upper point of the head of the radial bone;
  • upper sternal - a point in the deepening of the jugular notch of the sternum;
  • midsternal - a point in the middle of the chest line at the level of the articulation of the cartilages of the fourth ribs with the sternum;
  • nipple - the most protruding point of the mammary gland;
  • patella - center of the kneecap;
  • the anterior angle of the axilla is the highest point of the arc formed by the anterior edge of the axilla with the arm lowered;
  • posterior angle of the axilla - the highest point of the arc formed by the posterior edge of the axilla with the arm lowered;
  • gluteal - the most protruding point of the buttock;
  • waistline height point - a point on the most depressed part of the lateral surface of the body, midway between the lower rib and the iliac crest.

Constructive belts for the female figure

  • Head: taken into account when modeling hats and clothing covering the head.
  • Neck: determines the position of the neckline on the pattern. It is very important when constructing collars and necks of products.
  • Shoulder: taken into account when constructing shoulder patterns for figures with different posture, shape and rotation of the shoulders. It determines the overall width of the garment at the shoulders.
  • Chest: taken into account when determining the width of clothing and constructing the back and front of products.
  • Waist: taken into account when determining the width of the product along the waist line.
  • Pelvic: taken into account when determining the volume, width and division of clothing at a given level of the figure.
  • Thigh: taken into account when determining the volume and width of products at this level, especially waist ones (trousers, shorts, skirts, swimsuits).
  • Knee: taken into account when determining the length of the product.
  • Calf: taken into account when choosing the volume and width of the bottom of both waist and shoulder products.
  • Forearms: determine the volume, width and length of the sleeves and are very important when designing the collar, bottom and elbow part of the sleeve.

When constructing waist products, the main dimensional characteristic is the circumference of the hips. When constructing shoulder products - chest girth.
